The Big Berkey is the most popular size that Berkey makes. It holds enough water to satisfy 2 to 3 people, and it's unobtrusive size fits easily in most kitchens.
The Big Berkey can hold up to 4 Black Berkey filters, but can be used with only 2 filters by plugging the extra filter holes. (Two plugs are included.) The advantage of using 4 filters in the system is that it will filter the water faster. However, many of our customers choose to only use 2 filters at a time, and find that it's sufficient for their needs. Each set of 2 Black Berkey filters will purify 6000 gallons. The standard system comes with 2 Black filters. Please use our filter calculator to get an estimate of how long your Black filters will last.
The Big Berkey is also capable of reducing fluoride in your water when used with Berkey's optional PF-2 fluoride filters. The fluoride filters screw onto the Black filters.
The Big Berkey is powerful enough to purify stagnant pond water, yet perfect for everyday use. Because it works by gravity, it requires no electricity to operate. The system is very easy to operate. Simply pour your unfiltered water in the top chamber. Gravity pushes the water through the filters and your purified water is stored in the bottom chamber.
The unit has a height of 19", and a diameter of 8.5". It is made of grade 304 polished stainless steel. The system has a water storage capacity of approximately 2.25 gallons.
The Black Berkey filters used in the Big Berkey will reduce or remove pathogens, parasites, herbicides, pesticides, VOC's, heavy metals, as well as bad tastes and odors. Black Berkey filters can be cleaned by using a scotch brite pad under running water.

It is a little difficult to put together.. but the company includes extra information to help out. The only problem I had was a drip with the spigot and after a few tries- got it to sit right. So far, it is great and the water is so clear!

Should Have Gotten This Years Ago

Set up was a little tricky with conditioning the filters, but otherwise it was an easy setup. Can't believe how good the water is now. Had my family drink the filtered water then taste our tap water and what a difference. The tap water tastes like pool water, chlorine taste, and we have city water. Will never be without this again.

This is my fourth filter purchase and the Berkey is the best option for the money. It was up and running pretty quickly and you need to watch a prep video and you'll know exactly what to do. I was worried that the stainless would get too how on the counter sitting next to the window but that has not been a problem. The water tastes sweet and clean and comes out at a faster rate than the under sink option I had. Buy the clear window spigot, I wish I had. I bought three units for Christmas gifts and am glad I did!

My husband and I have had our Berkey Water Filter System now for 3 years and decided that our family members needed one too. I have the peace of mind knowing that they will have the best water filter for everyday use as well as any emergency that may come up in the future that might give them access to clean drinking water.

I was aware of the quality of the Berkey water filtration system for many years. It is one of those things that you think about buying. I guess it is because your water is as close as your faucet. Then a relative visited and said my city water was very bad. I realized then what I have been drinking. Next day I called Berkey. What a difference, it is the gold standard in water filters. When a product impress me, I tell people about it, two of them are purchasing one for their family. Don't wait like I did to give you and your family the best water available...

received my berkey on time and put it together immediately. the water was smooth and soft. the morning coffee was fantastic.
made ice tea and for the first time in years, it actually tasted like tea and there was no residue in the bottom of the pitcher. should have gotten one years ago. i love it.
